About
Why Argentina.
In July 2025 the Argentine government signed Decree 524/2025, amending the country's Nationality Law to create a path to citizenship for investors without a prior residence period. If it launches as drafted, it would be the first citizenship-by-investment program in South America, and the first time a passport this strong has been attached to a by-investment route.
The published framework doesn't set a price or name an eligible asset. Market reports mention a possible USD 500,000 contribution and a USD 1 million government bond, but neither appears in an official regulation. The law does allow a qualifying investor to seek citizenship without completing the ordinary prior residence period.
Be clear-eyed on timing. Market expectations point to late 2026, but the government hasn't set an opening date. The agency now has an executive director. The next decisive document is a Ministry of Economy resolution defining the investment and effective date.
What makes this one worth watching is the passport. Unlike Nauru or São Tomé, where the case is price, Argentina opens around 170 destinations visa-free, including the Schengen Area. A strong passport with no residence requirement is a rare combination.
There's nothing to apply for yet, but there's a head start to be had: we open a file, line up your source-of-funds paperwork, and you're ready to submit the day the program goes live. No fee changes hands before then. If you'd sooner wait for the published rules, that's sensible too, and this page follows the decree as it turns into a working program.

$500,000
Market reports point to a possible USD 500,000 route. The published decrees do not confirm the amount or eligible investment type, so no capital should be committed before the Ministry of Economy issues final rules.
- RecoverableAn investment rather than a donation, so capital is deployed in the economy rather than gifted. Final terms, hold periods and exit rules are pending the program regulations.
Benefits
What this citizenship gives you.
A genuinely strong passport
The Argentine passport opens roughly 170 destinations visa-free, including the Schengen Area. Our Mobility Score puts it at 177. This is the first time a top-tier travel document has been attached to a by-investment citizenship route.
The first citizenship by investment in South America
Argentina would be the only country in the Americas south of the Caribbean to offer citizenship for investment. Early movers tend to get the cleanest files and the most attention from the program office.
No residence requirement
The law allows a qualifying significant investor to seek citizenship without completing the ordinary prior residence period. Final filing conditions remain unpublished.
Capital deployed, not donated
Market reports mention both a contribution and a government bond. The published rules don't yet confirm either route, so capital treatment and exit terms remain unknown.
Dual citizenship recognised
Argentina recognises dual nationality, so you wouldn't give up your existing passport.
